Quick Meat Pie
1 package Crescent Roll Dough (makes 8)
1 package Crescent Roll Dough (makes 4)
2 tablespoons shortening (butter, margarine, oil or solid shortening)
1 lb. lean ground beef, ground round or ground sirloin
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1/3 cup catsup
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 large egg, beaten
4 slices processed American cheese (Kraft or Borden - the kind that
comes in individually wrapped slices)
1 teaspoon paprika
TO MAKE SHELL:
Unroll large package of crescent roll dough. Press triangles into a 9"
pie plate, pinching seams to make a smooth pie shell.
Bake in a preheated 375 F oven for 10 minutes or until puffy and brown.
Remove and set aside.
TO MAKE FILLING:
Melt 2 tablespoons of shortening in a large skillet. Sauté chopped
onion just until soft. Add ground beef and sauté until beef is well done and
crumbly. Remove from heat. In a measuring cup place the 1/3 cup of
catsup and next 5 ingredients. Stir well to mix. Add a little of the beef
mixture to the catsup mixture, stirring constantly, to warm it. Then add the
catsup mixture to the beef mixture in the skillet. Stir well.
TO ASSEMBLE AND BAKE:
Place beef mixture into prebaked shell. Top with slices of American
cheese. Unroll small package of crescent dough and place triangles on top of
pie in a pleasing pattern. Sprinkle with paprika. Bake at 375 F oven for
20-25 minutes. Remove from oven; let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
